Surf. Skate. Relate. The iconic brand JIMMY'Z was founded in 1984 in Malibu, Southern California. Renowned sculptor, painter, and surfer Jim Ganzer had the idea to create clothing for surfing and the beach. And so, all-cotton shorts with side Velcro closures were born. This concept ultimately shaped the way surfers and skaters wore clothes in the 80s. The original name, however, was JIMMY'S. (Jim's). For legal reasons, though, Jim could not register his name as a trademark. And so, JIMMY'Z was created. The "Z" in the name stands for "E-Z-IN, E-Z-OUT." Where did the car in the logo come from? As a teenager, Jim owned a 1950 Ford Woody. And he used the Ford to transport surfboards to the beach. In the first year, Jim sold 3 million dollars' worth of goods. This was also thanks to an aggressive and unique print advertising campaign, which was even highlighted by Cindy Crawford herself.
